Cycle 2019-2021: ‘Faire groupe’ – Contemporary rituals and geographical transmission
9 and 10 April 2021 with ICI – CCN de Montpellier Occitanie
“Making a group HERE/ICI, even though we come from elsewhere.
Meeting – initially in an empty space – to imagine, invent, feel, build
and end up traversing a sensitive and poetic landscape made up of bodies and materials”.
The power of a ritual is to bind the community together through the strength of its symbolism.
Vania Vaneau and Jordi Galí worked with the PREAC participants to overcome the physical distance between them and to come together through imagination. Together with their invited collaborators, they imagined this day of meetings as a time for doing, feeling and thinking. A collective journey to question together what makes a group and what makes a contemporary ritual.
The two worlds of Vania Vaneau and Jordi Galí – though different – converge in their exploration of matter.
An object can be both concrete and fictional. It carries within it time and wear, its origin and its weight, and at the same time allows desires, fears or symbols to be projected onto it, endowing it with powers or curses.
A raw material can contain or take on magical potential, just as the body itself can be both perishable and utopian, material and history.
For this PREAC 2021, they proposed to weave and build bridges between bodies and matter, to test this dialogue as a possible place of encounter with oneself, with the group and with the world. They proposed to share their specificities and similarities with the participants to create a sensitive landscape together.
They imagined this landscape as a space in which to question ritual through the deployment of a scenography made of materials, fabrics, wood and rope, but also of practices, sensations and complicities. It’s a place that has been built up over a long period of improvisation, through an accumulation of desires, words, images and attempts.
A sensitive and poetic place, as concrete as it is dreamlike.
