On-going – Premiere June 2019
BABEL wishes to gather a curious and involved community in the fulfilment of an excessive and fragile architectural gesture in the public space: the emergence of a leaning ephemeral column of 12 meters high by 25 people.
BABEL is a project based on the ideas of sharing and cooperation, that aims the creation of new performance. The process is divided on 2 periods:
– participative research workshops, to devise and build the units that shape the final column, to find their layout and handling to achieve the erection. Those workshops are made with several groups of different people, regardless of their skills, ages, knowledges or previous experiences. Each of them plays its part and contributes to the realization of BABEL.
– presentation of BABEL, as the final performance, each time gathering some professional performers of the company and a group of non-professional people.
Thanks to the coordination of wills and efforts, the excessiveness of the project and its utopian dimension will become a reality. BABEL reveals people at work all together, with their bodies and wishes; a technical challenge made possible because every person takes part in the community and becomes responsible of it. A deliberately ephemeral reality, a utopian dream that only exists when people are gathered to activate it.
